What to get checked, and when
Recommended adult screenings, grouped by decade. Your own plan may differ — Dr. Vijay Katari, MD will tailor it to your history and risk factors.
In your 20s & 30s
- Blood pressure every 1–2 years
- Cholesterol baseline (sooner with risk factors)
- Diabetes screening if overweight or at risk
- Cervical cancer screening (women, from 21)
- Mental-health & lifestyle check-in
In your 40s
- Blood pressure & cholesterol yearly
- Type 2 diabetes screening (USPSTF: 35–70 with overweight)
- Colorectal cancer screening begins at 45
- Mammogram every 2 years for women, starting at 40 (USPSTF 2024)
- Skin & general cancer awareness
In your 50s & 60s
- Colorectal cancer screening (45–75)
- Lung cancer screening if you have a smoking history
- Bone density (women 65+, earlier with risk)
- Shingles & pneumococcal vaccines
- Ongoing BP, cholesterol & diabetes monitoring
65 & beyond
- Annual Medicare Wellness Visit

Staying up to date
Flu
Every year for everyone 6 months and older.
COVID-19
2025–2026 vaccine — recommended especially for adults 65+ and higher-risk.
RSV
Adults 75+, and 60–74 at higher risk.
Tdap / Td
A booster every 10 years.
Shingles (RZV)
Recommended for adults 50 and older.
Pneumococcal
Adults 50 and older, or younger with certain conditions.
